I’m so Glad I Live in a World Where There Are Octobers

I’m so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers. And I’m especially glad that for us here in Canada October is a month of Thanksgiving. A month of gratefulness and gratitude. Yes we should be carrying these things throughout the entire year, but I’m glad that October zeros in on it and reminds us and as much as I love the garden and love planting in May and seeing what comes up in June and enjoying the surprises in July by September, I’m kind of done with watering and deadheading and weeding, etc. so I’m kind of glad that we do move into a season where we don’t have to do that anymore and then we still have something to look forward to in the spring ..: new life.
But there’s a different kind of slow living that you can sink your teeth into in October. I mean September everybody’s starting things , clubs, school, projects, etc. etc. it’s a very busy time but now that everything is running like clockwork we can bask in October. And I really do love the changing colors. Everything just looks so gorgeous and I love to go for walks and feel the leaves crunching under my feet and I especially love a neighborhood where the branches of the trees form an arch over the road And you’re driving by and leaves are fluttering to the ground and falling on your vehicle. And then there’s a crispness in the air which sends you to the closet for your cozy sweaters and puffer vests and woolly socks, and there’s just something so cozy and comforting about that.
Time to start turning on the fireplaces and bringing out the quilts and snuggling in early because it’s getting dark quicker now.  nothing like an aromatic pot of stew or soup simmering on the stove. Time for making caramel sauce and dipping your apples in it. What a lovely treat that is to come home too.
And this weekend, we are being threatened with our first snow, which doesn’t bother me in the least. I always love a little bit of snow.  A little bit being the operative phrase here.  It makes me want to go watch Gilmore girl, reruns, and join Lorelei as she declares that she can smell snow.
I’ve unearthed all the autumn things that I could find in this house and spread them around to make it feel HYGGE in here. And it does. Time for reading. Time for quilting projects. Time for baking banana bread. And pie. And enjoying being home alone on a Friday when you don’t have to work, but the rest of your people are out working and you’re just sitting by the fire, sipping tea and reading Louise Penny.
